Responding to witnesses' reports of the distressing sounds, the Polk County Sheriff's Office's Animal Cruelty Investigations Unit discovered the lifeless bodies of Lincoln and Casper in the pond.
A subsequent necropsy revealed the harrowing truth: both dogs had met their end through violent stabbings, suffering excruciating pain in their final moments.
The evidence gathered led to the arrest of Burgos, who now faces charges including felony animal cruelty and tampering with evidence, among others.
